Extreme ideologies killed President Sadat. He was murdered by the hands of his own people.
Extreme ideologies killed Prime Minister Rabin. He was murdered by hands of his own people.
These two leaders were once on the opposite side, but one day they saw the Other, and they believed that they had something in common: the desire for peace. So the question is then, where is the enemy?
Many felt betrayed then. The Israeli right, the Egyptian right? left? applies? and the Palestinians felt abandoned by their older sister, who's national anthem used to sing in schools .
Why is it that peace brings disasters onto people? In societies so complex as the Middle East one, peace cannot be negotiated by "Big Chief". Peace should start on small scales, tribal agreements within Israel and within Palestine and amongst them. Men in big positions disregard the importance of this. They believe that they will make the better deal at "close doors" with a foreign mediator. From my point of view this cannot work! as a fact, never did! They cannot import a "model" of negotiations. They have to understand the region!
