Every year since 1901 the Nobel Prize has been awarded for achievements in physics, chemistry, physiology or medicine, literature and for peace.
Henry Dunant, founder of the Red Cross, shared the first Nobel Peace Prize in 1901 with Frédéric Passy, a leading international pacifist of the time.
In addition to humanitarian efforts and peace movements, the Nobel Peace Prize has been awarded for work in a wide range of fields including advocacy of human rights, mediation of international conflicts, and arms control.
I do believe that Barak Obama is an outstanding phenomena, that outcomes as a zeitgeist of the United States.
When some people on the streets were asked on whether they agreed with the fact that President Obama has been chosen of this Peace Prize, many said "no" for the reason that the USA is still at "war".
Then I heard people saying that a "war" against terrorism, is not but a peace effort.
Now the question is. Where is the criteria? The criteria is as it reads: "to the person who shall have done the most or the best work for fraternity between nations, for the abolition or reduction of standing armies and for the holding and promotion of peace congresses."
There have been a record of 209 candidates for nominations this year, for this Prize.
Now, when it comes to literature and medicine the Nobel seems to act as a reward. When it comes to economics, as a fuel for a trend. And when it comes to Peace? From my point of view this Prize seems to be more directed toward a political strategy and incentive, than towards a reward. It may be, to say the least, a discretional matter: it "depends"!

There have been questionable awards and questionable omissions over the Prize's century-long history. But despite this, the Nobel Peace Prize always acts as a "reification" event. A "Symbolic Universe" that contains under its light a "TRUTH" to be held. The world "reads"Nobel Prized writers and "hears" Nobel Prized economists, "cooperate"with men of science. And defenetly have to trust someone nominated for Peace. Mother Teresa was one of them...
Now I do not know what Mother Teresa and President Obama have in common but this is the new "TRUTH" decided by a few men two days ago.
It is tricky when the holder of a Nobel Prize for Peace is someone as influent as a President. It gives him, of course that "little bit" of extra "sanctified" power.
My deepest hope is that President Obama will make good use of this opportunity because that is what this Prize is about, this time. Not so much as something related to the past, as so much to his future actions.

Now you may ask...why is this article in a Blog that is about the Middle East? Well... think about it.
